Blockchain in sustainable supply chains is one of the topics I'm trying to educate myself on. Recently I listened to this podcast by 'The Future of Agriculture' which got me super excited. The podcast tells about this company called AgUnity that facilitates record keeping of amongst farmers and with service providers. An example given is that a cocoa farmer puts a helps out a neighbouring farmer. The farmers record the transaction in an app which records it in a blockchain support ledger. The crux is that once both farmers have authorized the record of the transaction, it cannot be changed. Due to this recod in the app, the revenue from the harvested cocoa is split over the two farmers as soon as it is sold at the cooperative. As cheating is not possible trust it build which in turn stimulates collaboration. But the advantages go beyond increased collaboration as the system can also aids with financial services, loss reduction, and farm managment information based on record keeping. Want to learn more?
